This weekend’s power outage experienced by Mount Horeb Utilities was caused by a squirrel issue at the downtown substation.  Utility staff are meeting with engineers to determine if additional squirrel protection can be added to the substation to help prevent future issues.  Additionally, we are aware that there have been an unusual amount of outages and interruptions to the power supply this year and staff are working to resolve these issues and return the power to the reliability that our customers expect.  Currently staff is working with engineers and consultants to identify the cause of a failing transformer at the North East substation on Wally Road.  The utility is also in the process of planning for a third substitution on the west side of the Village to help improve the delivery of electric to our customers.
